St.
Lawrence Holiday Home Park is owned and managed by the Duce Family,
father & son team of Alan and Gary, ably assisted by Karen, Dee
and Tony.
We pride ourselves on offering our guests a peaceful and tranquil
setting that enables them to make the most of their precious holiday
time. So much so that some pitch holders have been with us for over
50 years.
Alan & Gary always look forward to welcoming new owners, as well.
The Park was founded in 1948 when Alan’s future In-laws, bought
Beacon Hill Farm, St Lawrence. They decided in 1950 that the caravan
aspect of the farm was more viable than the farming side. So they
applied for and got the first planning permission for a caravan site.
During the 50's the Park developed as it grew it demanded more work
and in the mid to late 50's Alan & Thelma, now married, joined
the business. By the early 1960's the old club house was getting too
small to cope with the expanding Park and permission was granted for
a new public house cum club house. This was opened in 1966 by 3 Tottenham
Hotspurs players, Martin Peters, Martin Chivers & Alan Gilzen.
Bernie & Marge Poincey were the First Landlord & Lady and
they ran it for nearly 20 years.
English Caravan holidays became more and more “the place to
go” during the 60'& 70's. Then with the advent of cheap
European travel to Spain etc, this type of holiday became less popular.
However with today’s “Credit Crunch” it is rapidly
regaining its popularity. We have always believed in the sustainability
of the Caravan holiday and this belief has been backed up by the continuing
support of our loyal customers. Over the last ten years we have put
in a major reinvestment into the Park and completed a major redevelopment
by installing, mains drainage to the caravans, a Launderette, a launching
ramp for the beach, expanding the St Lawrence Inn by adding a Children's
room, play area and patio.
Our Park is a member of the British Holiday & Home Parks Association,
The National Caravan Council, The East of England Tourist Board, The
Essex Tourism Association and the Maldon Tourism Forum.
The Parks founder's Grandson, Gary has been Chairman of the East Anglian
Branch of the BH&HPA and Vice Chairman and treasurer of the Essex
Tourism Association, chairman of the Maldon Tourism Forum and secretary
of the Maldon & Dengie LVA.
